Happy Birthday to me!
On my 37th Birthday this year, I woke up to my son’s little fingers poking my face. My daughter had a morning meltdown over ponytails or sparkly shoes or leggings – I’m still not sure. I picked up dog poop, did the laundry, created a newsletter, mediated sibling fights and helped with big feelings from little people.
Connecting with my humanity
My birthday this year was a typical day in my life but having it be my birthday gave me some perspective. My day to day really isn’t chock full of instagrammable moments. It’s not perfect at all. And I wouldn’t have it any other way because even when I’m wiping someone’s butt or reconnecting after my own mommy meltdown, it all just feels so very right.
I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
Experiencing the serendipity of my life amidst the chaos and the quirkiness of it all comes from practice. To arrive in this amazing place of acceptance and joy, I have:
- Learned my triggers and what’s really hiding behind my anger, ie. whining=my inner child longing to be heard
- Implemented a time for formal meditation
- Practiced self-compassion
- Given and received Reiki
- Focused on the breath
- Nourished my soul
I am convinced that these tools and practices have shown up in my journey not only to benefit me and my family but also so that I can share them with those who come to me for healing.
